Understanding the keto diet
The keto diet is a low-carb, high-fat, and moderate-protein eating plan. It allows your body to shift into a metabolic state called ketosis. While in ketosis, you begin to use glycogen before breaking down fat into molecules called ketones
Simply put, ketosis burns fat as its primary source of energy over carbs. The result is often weight loss, blood sugar balance, and better control over chronic conditions.
Generally, most people on keto aim for this macro breakdown:
Carbs: 5% of calories or less
Protein: 20-25% of calories
Fat: 70-75% of calories
For many people, this works out to about 25-50 grams of carbs per day.
Carbs like bread, pasta, potatoes, sugary sodas, and even fruit break down into sugars and have a large impact on your blood sugar levels. Although protein and fat can also affect your blood sugar levels, they have much less impact than your carbohydrate intake.

What is Keto?
Paleo involves eating like our ancestors. Heavy on the protein, meats, vegetables and fruits. Nothing processed, loaded with sugars and crap.
Eating like, well,a caveman.
Sounds simple enough. Isn’t this what we are suppose to eat anyways?
Well, yes. So why is there is SO much pushback on paleo? Why is it deemed just a trend instead of the solution?
The controversy around paleo can be narrowed to this- bread, wheat, flour, gluten, and dairy.
Since these foods weren’t around when our ancestors were, they are a big no no in paleo world. These foods are loaded with “man made” ingredients and thus strictly off limits.
These man made ingredients have been linked to many health issues; major and minor.
Dairy– has been linked to bloating, stomach cramps, hormone imbalances,
Gluten– is bad! Here are two things you need to know about Gluten:
1) Celliac Disease- This is a sensitivity in the lower intestine caused by gluten. This can weaken the immune system, cause severe digestion issues, and sickness. You may even strike a fever after a night out for pasta and breadsticks.
2) Gluten sensitivity- A little bread might not bother you, but a full sandwich- you feel rough. Bloating, constipation, acne, irritability and dull stomach cramps are just a few of the signs.
Some people can go their whole lives and not have any sensitivity to gluten- good for them. But for the majority, it’s not the case.
Here’s the argument: PALEO does not incorporate enough carbohydrates and resembles the atkins diet too closely.
I completely disagree with this. Sweet potatoes, root vegetables, and other starchy veggies are allowed on paleo, whereas, they were a no go on atkins.
Furthermore, atkins has been praised with “short term” results; as paleo is a sustainable lifestyle. It brings you back to the fundamentals of health and nutrition.

Paleo does NOT shy away from fat. Which can be psychologically taxing on people who fell into the old adage that low calories, low-fat and nonfat= fat loss. This is a very common misconception, perpetuated by our media. But that is for another day.
It really is that simple. Just follow this:
There you have it. Paleo in a nutshell. This is the quick version with many more details to come. I personally follow paleo, with the exception of shakeology, and have never felt better! The proof is in the results, and who can argue with results?
IT’S TIME TO CHOOSE
Do nothing. If you aren't ready to make a change, no judgment... I was once there too, but unfortunately, I can't help
Try Harder. Keep doing the same thing over and over and maybe things will change this time? ( Just kidding... that's the actual definition of insanity!)
Do It Yourself. Obviously it is possible to adopt a low-carb lifestyle on your own. The basic principles are simple... stop eating sugar, grains, and processed seed oils. Unfortunately, changing a lifetime of eating habits is easier said than done. This option is better than nothing and if you go this route, I sincerely wish you the best of luck!

All my keto and low-carb diet plans are individually personalised based on factors such as, age, current weight, current activity levels broadly speaking, Ketogenic diets fall into one of 5 categories that generally cover most considerations and weight-loss goals.

This is a very low carb, moderate protein and high fat diet. Typically containing 70% fat, 20% protein, and only 10% carbs.

This diet involves periods of higher carb re-feeds…such as 5 ketogenic days followed by 2 high carb days.

This is similar to a standard ketogenic diet, but includes more protein. The ratios are more like 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs.

This diet allows you to add carbs around workouts and exercise routines.

This diet involves eating a high-fat, low-carb diet and is followed just like a conventional ketogenic diet. But only eating one meal a day
